Solar (Human) Male/Nonbinary Informant

Xanthanel is a Solar in service to Lathander

They spend most of their time observing and gathering information, and only steps in when they absolutely have to. Lathander sends them on a lot of missions to gather information on more sensitive topics that he’s unable to handle himself.

Xan likes being a teacher and a guide, and it’s not uncommon for them to take on wards both among Planetars and mortals. Zeal just happens to be his latest project, taken to a whole new level. As far as where Xan's loyalties truly lie, he is more invested in nurturing Zeal than he ever was serving Lathander.

Xan is very old, and became a Solar posthumously. In life, they were a researcher and a botanist specializing in the plants of the Fulric Desert. This perspective is what drives their want to be a teacher to mortals when they have the opportunity - they remember what it was like to be one.

Background

01

Botany

  • Xan was a botanist in life, and still treats it as a fun hobby.
  • Work is old, not bad. Missing modern study, a great start (think mendelian genetics). Heavy focus on genetic modification of plants.
  • Lots of cataloging plants. Did a grimoire of plants, species murdered this species, cross pollinated this species into a hybrid species. Book of the dead but for plants.
  • As a Soalr he keeps a lot of interesting and exotic (see: dangerous) species to do some "light" experiments in hybridizations.

02

In a Secret Cabal

Apparently was in a secret cabal to overturn the Fulrics in life.

  • Helped build The Undaunted by providing arcane materials, which were built specifically to drive the Fulrics out.

03

Lathander

  • Has been serving Lathander for most of his afterlife, and found purpose in being part of a collective good and being around folks who have your back.
    • He was a bit of a loner in his life, and didn't hold any specific hard allegiances.

04

The Ritual

Was responsible for stopping a huge ritual that was meant to summon one of Mammon's dukes into the Prime Material. He felt like he did what he had to despite it leaving a sour taste in his mouth, but he met Zeal during this event, and considers it one of the most important events of his life.

See Zeal Eddison's backstory for more details.

Relationships, Factions & Connections

Zeal - His adoptive son, Xanthanel loves and is more loyal to Zeal than he is to any other entitiy in the world. Xan would go to the edges of the world for him and does all in their power to keep him safe and happy. They are extremely territorial about their connection to Zeal's mind and gets extremely upset when anyone else tries to break in.

Lathander - The Upper Planar god that he is in service to. Lathander is always sorta listening, and even when not, hard to escape their purview.

  • Because of the incident with Drogmore (Xan stepped in to stop an Adult Green Dragon that nearly killed Zeal and his party), Lathander threatened to strip Xan of his status as a Solar, erase his memories of being one, and put him back to being a "dead soul"
    • This is what Xan meant by "I'll lose my kid"

Mr Prickles - An awakened cactus who lives with them, and has been their companion since mortal life. It's a mischievous little thing who likes to poke Xan and gets sassy when it's not watered on time.
