Mickael Dentham is a member of a renowned monster hunting group called The Black Thorns, and is among the highest ranks of leadership within, a member of the Inner Circle.

He lives and breathes fighting, and is a monster hunter at heart. He is quiet, reserved, and fights monsters for coin, but definitely also for fun. He faces problems head-on with little patience for over-planning. Naturally wary of others, he can be difficult to befriend, but once trust is earned, it is never lost. Once trust is lost, you’re a dead man.

He’s not afraid to take risks, especially in the acquisition of arcane power, and willingly experiments on himself in attempts to augment his abilities. When it comes to gaining an edge, safety is secondary to potential.

Ultimately, he is a slave to coin. He has standards, but needs to eat, and will periodically take on tasks he would normally turn away in order to ensure his survival. Sometimes can be unreasonably apathetic, and his moral compass at any given time is usually tied to how emotionally invested he is in any given situation.

His tattoos give him the ability to spellcast without having to actually learn arcana on his own - they were designed and created by his partner Hex, who bears similar tattoos.

Outside of fighting monsters, his specialty is alchemy.

TLDR: He's basically a witcher!

This background is as his story existed in a now defunct Rime of the Frostmaiden campaign I was playing in. This is subject to change.

Mickael begins monster hunting.

An experimental leave

  • Mickael takes an experimentation leave and begins his journey as an alchemist.
  • Attempts to give himself Darkvision - doesn’t work, now is more light sensitive than before. Prototype is promising though.

Hex joins the Black Thorns

  • Mickael and Hex Marvaldi start development of the Arcane Tattoos and the Arcane Concoction to activate them. It takes about a year of experimentation on and off to perfect the runes and mixture. Mickael can now spellcast.

They start dating

  • Mickael and Hex start dating (or honestly, just make the clearly obvious official)
    • They continue to collaborate on a number of rune and alchemy related projects.
      • One concoction gives Mickael the Alert Feat (heightened senses).

Inner Circle

  • Mickael and Hex become members of the Inner Circle and they start working on their Big Project

Freelance Work

  • After several years of disagreement over keeping integrity as monster hunters, Mickael violently gets kicked out of the Black Thorns by the other members of the Inner Circle.
    • Hex is away on another job at this time - where she meets her demise.
    • Mickael spends about a year freelancing in the Moon Sea
      • Starts getting his bearing as a member of the Order of the Cloaks in Mulmaster.

On the Run

  • Freelance work with the Cloaks begins interfering with the Black Thorn’s work as they shift focus - a fight breaks out among them, Mickael is left seriously injured and his arcane tattoos dispelled by Thereo.
    • A week or two later Mickael breaks into the Watcher’s Reach to steal components necessary to reinstate his spellcasting.
  • Courtney Vass helps him secretly
  • Mickael kills Ailas Shiphard and Malrus Tarnadar in his attempt to get out
  • Components in hand, Mickael runs toward the Sword Coast.
  • Meets Megieve (another Player Character) in the Anauroch Desert, travels with her to Waterdeep, and catches the ship to Icewind Dale after discovering they were being followed to their final destination of Baulder’s Gate.
